The Beginning

In 2003, Shambhavi Hingorani saw her long-held dream of a sprawling vineyard take shape on the rich, loamy soils of the Nandi Valley appellation located in the south west region of Karnataka close to the well-known garden city of Bangalore. SDU Winery was the culmination of this dream and was the first boutique winery from this appellation.

From its inception, SDU Winery has dedicated itself solely to the production of world-class red and white wine. We adhere to a simple, yet modern approach to making wine in a state-of-the-art facility with machineries imported from Italy (Della Toffola, Ragazzini, and Bertolaso) and the wine tanks matching international standards. All grapes are sourced solely from our own vineyard. Our renowned Italian winemaker, Andrea Valentinuzzi, strives to bring out the distinctive character of our wines in every step from our vineyard to your glass. We extend our winemaking philosophies to the creation of our first Wine brand ‘Deva.’

Our first crushing started in 2012 and utilizes grapes from Vineyard planted  in 2003. Waited for 8 years for matured Grapes perfect for quality wines.

Since the founding of the Nandi Valley appellation in Southern Karnataka, SDU Winery has focused on crafting new age fine wines. Our meticulously cared vineyards have perfect combinations of French grape vines, picturesque hillside locations and ideal growing conditions.

The following vineyards produce several of the distinctive wines in the SDU Winery portfolio.

The Vines in the vineyards grow in gravelly red loamy, good depth, fertility- perfect for the Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. TG Halli vineyard cultivates incredibly concentrated Cabernet Sauvignon, which is the primary source for Deva Cabernet Sauvignon, Reserva’s and Wine Maker’s Selection.

This 16 year old vineyard is 780 metres above the sea level touching the beautiful lake in the neighborhood.

Our light-footed farmers march upto the vineyard during the joyous period in the bursts of sunshine to passionately handpick the grapes for our winery which we express as the ‘ripe moment.’

ID Halli, Karnataka:

Located 30 km past Gauribidanur Town, the ID Halli vineyard has a mixture of clay and red gravelly soils, ideal for growing grapes. This 9 year old vineyard utilises modern equipment and best practices for the grape growth contributing to our Deva brand.

MESSAGE FROM MAKERS

Wine For Everyone

Our Winery

Our winery is equipped with our own in-house laboratory facilities and tasting rooms. Our high-tech labs perform a comprehensive range of tests and analyses to ensure optimum wine quality throughout the process. With a state-of the-art wine tank infrastructure, we are undoubtedly the most progressive boutique winery in India.

Imported from France, our oak barrels are toasted to produce aromas which is encountered in every sip of wine. These barrels are exclusively used to age our Reservas for 10 months and Wine Maker’s Selection for 16 months. We ensure that the barrels are discarded after every four fills to employ quality and hygiene of wines through the years.

At SDU Winery, we want our wines to represent the grapes primary expression. We ensure that the same unique characteristic is maintained throughout the winemaking process. We use high quality stainless steel equipment and tanks as well as oak barrels for fermentation and maturation facilitated by our rigorous in-house laboratory analyses.

The grapes are harvested during earlier hours of the day to avoid uncontrolled fermentation and loss of aromas. They travel all the way to the winery where they are in a crusher-destemmer manufactured by the Italian brand ‘Della Toffola’. The extracted grape juices are then fermented in one of our stainless steel tanks with automatic temperature control system. This is achieved by a myriad of different sized stainless steel tanks installed along with a robust refrigeration to preserve the fruitiness of the grape.

Stainless Steel Tanks

After fermentation, the wine is allowed to age in the same stainless steel tanks.
They are subjected to routine analysis, frequent tasting and quality assessment – ensuring the wine’s character and quality is garnered. When the wine is ready, it is bottled and packaged in the winery using a Bertolaso monoblock for cap placement and pressure-sensitive labelling to bring you the very finest wines.

Every sip of SDU wine will leave you fascinated & experience the ‘art of wine making’ with the brace of Mother Nature.
